While some of the more smartphone-oriented capabilities are sacrificed, the raw horsepower built into this beast can tear through everything you can throw at it.
We spent four weeks with the RedMagic 7 Pro, putting it through its paces in daily use and more demanding gameplay settings in preparation for this comprehensive review.

You can tell what this smartphone is for just by looking at the rear of the Nubia RedMagic 7 Pro. The internal components are given a slightly silver hue by the glass back, and if you forget what configuration you choose, all the crucial specs are highlighted in various locations around the build.

We’ve gone from a 165Hz AMOLED screen on the RedMagic 7 to a 120Hz AMOLED screen on the RedMagic Pro.
Even in the 120Hz range, there are few games that take advantage of these higher refresh rates these days, so it’s a minor bump for the spec sheet. Even so, I found the animations and scrolling to be smooth.
Even if the maximum brightness level is still a little slack colors explode beautifully on this screen. It certainly aids in distinguishing contrast between sharp colors and deep blacks, but there’s less vibrancy here than one might anticipate from a device geared to giving mobile games as much power as possible.
Gaming of Nubia Red Magic
Of course, the RedMagic 7 Pro shines brightest at the Play Store. From the power under the hood to the appearance and feel of each title, there are a lot of unique features that all work together to offer an exceptional mobile gaming experience.
Let’s start with the 960Hz multi-finger touch sampling rate, which is a super-responsive display feature that kicks in as soon as you start twitch-based platformers.
The two shoulder buttons that run along the top of the tablet aren’t revolutionary in and of themselves, but they do create a clean, pleasant control scheme with a nice responsive feel overall, even though they aren’t physical clickers.
With these triggers at the wheel, Call of Duty Mobile was a particularly stunning experience, with an absorbing set of controls that rapidly became second nature.
With presets customizable in the Game Space program, the shoulder buttons can also be remapped for each title. This is where things start to get technical, with the program providing information on your components and frame rates, as well as allowing you to play around with the controls.

The battery of Nubia Red Magic
Outside of the United States, the RedMagic 7 Pro can charge at 120W, and within North America and Canada, it can charge at 65W. That means you’ll be able to charge in about 20 minutes at most, which is a useful feature considering gaming phones rarely provide enough screen time.
On a single battery, I got about two and a half hours of maximum brightness, 120Hz PUBG gameplay, and roughly three hours of less demanding games like Magic The Gathering: Arena.
I was good to go for around two days at a time in ordinary day-to-day use, based on casual texting, the occasional Google search, and some YouTube sessions.
Conclusion
Gaming phones are still a limited market. When most of the big-name flagships can also play games well, there’s little incentive for the typical individual to choose the RedMagic 7 Pro.
That doesn’t make it a terrible phone, and it doesn’t rule out the product category entirely.
Look no farther than the RedMagic 7 Pro if you’re looking for a gaming phone. It has all the power you’ll ever need, as well as some fantastic features. Even the under-display camera is a welcome addition, as it allows for more screen real estate for games.
