OnePlus 9 Review
- Design and Build Quality
- Display and Audio
- Hardware and Performance
- Camera Quality
Design and Build Quality:
The hardware design of the OnePlus 9 Pro is the most elegant and seamless phone from the company. This is a big phone with a 6.7-inch screen that goes from edge to edge in a narrow body. The build quality is amazing and the glass on the front and back curves into the aluminum rail on the edges without any seams.
This device is beautiful, solid, and well-balanced. OnePlus 9 Pro is quite similar to Galaxy S20 Plus as the similarity is uncanny. There is a three-stage ringer switch that lets you easily toggle between vibration, ringer, and completely silent.
OnePlus 9 Pro has the top-tier Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 processor along with eight gigs of RAM on the 128GB model. There is no MicroSD card slot for storage expansion but there are different models with better storage. This smartphone supports a 5G network along with LTE.
Display and audio:
The super AMOLED display is fabulous and you will get an improved in-hand experience. It spans 6.7-inches across with a 20.1:9 aspect ratio. The display gently curves on the sides and balances the ergonomics and accidental touches in a beautiful manner.
There is a resolution of 1440 x 3216 and 1300 nits of peak brightness, and the visuals pop out with amazing dynamic sharpness and vibrancy. You will find 10-bit color depth and HDR10+ that will enhance the experience. You have the option to enable MEMC with which regular content will be displayed at higher refresh rates.
Bezels are minimal on all four sides and we simply loved the punch-hole selfie camera. You can customize your viewing experience by changing resolution, color profiles, temperature tone, and screen calibration. You can also increase the touch response rate to 360Hz for gaming.
There is an underplay optical fingerprint scanner that is the fastest. There are two speakers in this phone, primary grille on the bottom and earpiece doubling as the second channel.
Hardware and performance:
OnePlus 9 Pro has the best hardware available with the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 processor. It does not slow down even during heavy gaming. There are two variants available with 8GB RAM and 128GB storage and 12GB RAM and 256GB storage. There is no storage expansion though.
Apps open quickly and the content stays in memory easily. Games also load quickly and run well. This phone is 5G ready and cellular reception is excellent. OnePlus 9 Pro runs on Oxygen OS 11 atop Android 11 out-of-the-box. Signature features like always-on-display, zen mode, themes, pro-gaming mode are all present in the phone.
OnePlus lays great emphasis on the cameras of its smartphones but has not reached the top yet. However, it has teamed up with Hasselblad to assist in optimizing photographs. Initially, they have focused on software and looks and the shutter button is Hasselblad orange.
The shutter sound is like that of the original Hasselblad camera. Color calibration has been adjusted to reproduce colors more accurately. Pro mode has also been revised and 12-bit RAW pictures are supported.
The latest mode is Tilt-Shift and there are new sensors and ultra-wide cameras. The main camera is a 48MP f/1.8 unit and it uses the latest 1/1.43-inch Sony IMX789 sensor. It focuses very quickly and has gotten closer to the shoot-and-forget territory.
The battery life of the OnePlus 9 Pro is a 4500mAh pack. We tested the phone on Full HD+ resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. However, the device has the fastest charging speeds as compared to other smartphones. It takes about 35 minutes to get charged with a Warp Charge 65T charger. There is also support for 50W wireless charging and this charger can be used for other devices too.
- Powerful smartphone with great power
- Amazing software
- Great screen experience with plenty of detailing and strong brightness
- Natural-looking photos with life-like colors
- Fast charging
- Digital zoom is weak
- No 5G on AT&T
